Christmas at Loseley

Dec 21, 2015

This will be my first Christmas working at Loseley Park so I thought I would share my Loseley Christmas experience.  The Christmas tree was put up early in December in the Great Hall in time for us to welcome all our Friends of Loseley to their annual Christmas drinks.  We were pleased to see the familiar faces of our loyal supporters and some new ones too and plied them all with delicious nibbles and a little festive spirit!  On Thursday the staff, past and present, also gathered in the Great Hall; a Loseley tradition that marks the start of  Christmas for us all.  Mike and Sarah hosted the event and their hospitality and the Hall’s special festive atmosphere were enjoyed by everyone.

Last week we welcomed six groups to enjoy traditional Christmas lunch in the Tithe Barn and guided tours of the House.  We are not usually open in the winter so this was a special opportunity to enjoy a wintry Loseley with the added sparkle of Christmas lights and decorations.

One might think that the run-up to Christmas is hectic enough without getting married but pre-Christmas nuptials are very popular and we have had several winter weddings through December and more to come early in the New Year.

Now that the trees have finally lost all their leaves the garden and grounds take on a very different feel.  The balls of mistletoe in the trees are very visible and the holly trees, both in the grounds and the garden, still have some berries but the birds are making short work of them.  All we need now to complete the winter scene is a spot of snow!

Happy Christmas from Joanna and the Loseley team.
