An exhibition of “Culture in Stone”, work by contemporary Zimbabwean stone sculptors will be on display in the Walled Gardens at Loseley Park from Friday 20th April – Sunday 22nd April during the Spring Garden Show, and then from Tuesday1st May – Monday 18th June.
A selection of sculptures of various stones, shapes and sizes, created by artists represented by Culture in Stone are on display. The artworks encapsulate the rooted culture of ZImbabwean artists. The gardens provide an outdoor gallery experience which is delightful and appealing to all who visit. The sculptures have a tribal history which will intrigue and entice you. Shona sculpture is called after the name of the largest tribe engaged in sculpting. Zimbabwe derived from the Shona word Dzimbadzamabwe, which means “house of stone” is the only country on the African continent that has large deposits of stone suitable for sculpting.
Culture in Stone owner and curator Hillary Manuhwa and associate curator Biggie Chikodzi have curated exhibitions in outdoor setting for decades. These Shona stone sculptures have found their way around the world.
The Exhibition will be open on Friday 20th – Sunday 22nd April: 10.00am- 500pm. (Sunday 4.00pm) during the Spring Garden Show, and from Tuesday 1st May – Monday 18th June. (Garden opening times apply: Sunday – Thursday 11.00am – 5.00. Closed Friday and Saturday).

“Old Herbaceous” Produced by Kick In The Head, Directed by Simon Downing with Giles Shenton as Herbert Pinnegar. Outdoor performance of a one-man play.
Bring a chair or rug and a picnic (no tables or umbrellas, please) and spend a glorious summer evening watching this charming portrayal of a different time in a wonderful, historic setting. Refreshments and bar available. Doors open at 5.30pm and performance starts at 6.30pm. Tickets – Adult £20.00, Child (under 16) £10.00 and Family £55.00 (2 adults and 2 children under 16).
Described as “Downton Abbey with gardening tips”, Old Herbaceous is the humorous love story of a single-minded yet gentle man with a passion for plants and is a charming one man play which has entranced sell-out audiences all around the country over the last two years.
An acute and sometimes hilarious observation of relationships between the classes in a simpler age, Old Herbaceous is sprinkled with witticisms and epithets. The evening blossoms into tender humour, much in the traditionally understated English style of the early 20th century.
As Old Herbaceous, renowned actor Giles Shenton truly lives the part of the legendary Head Gardener, Herbert Pinnegar, inviting you to feel included in a private chat from a bygone, comforting age. Keeping you engrossed, amused and emotionally engaged from start to finish, Old Herbaceous will leave you with a feeling that, perhaps, all’s right with the world.
